The short version
- We do not ask for your name, email or any other personal detail to use the site.
- We set no cookies, and there is no advertising anywhere on the site.
- Your best times and preferences are stored in your own browser and never sent anywhere.
- Two external requests happen on every page: fonts from Google, and a page-view counter added by our host. Both are described below.
What is stored, and where
When you finish a puzzle, the result is written to your browser's localStorage under keys beginning avph.. The same mechanism remembers the settings on each board, such as your chosen difficulty or whether the clock is showing.
This data stays on your device. It is not transmitted to us, it is not readable by other websites, and there is no account it could be attached to. It is not shared between browsers or devices, which is why your best time on a phone will not appear on a laptop.
To remove it, clear site data for this domain in your browser's settings. Nothing on our side needs to be told, because there is nothing on our side.
No cookies, no advertising, no profile
The site sets no cookies of any kind. There is no tag manager, no pixel, no session recording, no A/B testing tool and no advertising network anywhere on it. Nothing builds a profile of you, and nothing follows you to another website.
There is no consent banner because we have nothing to ask your consent for. What we do not write in our own code, though, our host adds on its own, and the next section is honest about that.
The two external requests
Google Fonts. The pages load three typefaces from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. Your browser therefore contacts Google's servers, and Google sees your IP address and the usual request headers, in line with their own privacy policy. If you block those domains the pages still work correctly and fall back to the typefaces already on your system.
A page-view counter. The site is served through Cloudflare, and our hosting provider has Cloudflare Web Analytics switched on. That inserts a small script from static.cloudflareinsights.com into each page, which reports that the page was viewed. It is cookieless, it does not use browser storage, and it is not something we added or have any use for — it comes from the hosting configuration rather than from our code. Blocking that domain has no effect on the puzzles.
We would rather the second one were not there, and it is worth stating plainly what it means: we could in principle see counts of page views. We do not act on them, and nothing on this site is designed around them.
Hosting and the network in front of it
Because traffic passes through Cloudflare on its way to the server, Cloudflare handles every request and will see your IP address, as will the host. Both may keep standard server logs — typically address, time, and which file was requested. That is a function of the infrastructure rather than of anything the site does, and we do not process or analyse those logs.
Children
The puzzles are suitable for any age and there is nothing here to buy, wager or sign up for. Since we collect nothing at all, we do not knowingly or unknowingly hold personal data about children, or about anybody else.
Your rights over your data
Rights of access, correction, deletion and portability all assume somebody is holding data about you. We are not. There is no record to request a copy of, nothing to correct, and no profile to delete.
The only data connected to your use of the site is the record in your own browser, which is entirely under your control and can be deleted by you at any moment without asking us.
Changes to this policy
If any of this changes — if the fonts move to our own server, if the host's counter is switched off, or if anything is added that touches a server — this page will be updated and the date at the top will change with it. We will not quietly add tracking and leave this text as it is.
